1. How to Free Yunobo in Breath of the Wild

Once you have defeated Fireblight Ganon, Yunobo will be freed, and you will be able to access Vah Rudania.

Walking to Goron City

To get to Goron City, you’ll need to follow Death Mountain’s slopes. From the Dueling Peaks climb the path up to the Eldin region.

There you will encounter a few Bokoblins guarding a small shack; if you want to, you can enter the shack and open a treasure chest. Past the Bokoblins, you’ll encounter a wooden platform with a hang glider on top. The hang glider will take you up to a higher ledge where you’ll see a short path leading to a shrine. To the right of the path leading to the shrine, you’ll see a large, open area with two large rocks in the center. Climb the smaller rock and use your paraglider to jump down to the path ahead of you.

The path is a long and winding one that is filled with enemies; you can fight your way through them or try to sneak past them. If you sneak, watch out for the Lizalfos that roam the area; they will not hesitate to try to kill you.

When you reach the end of the path, you’ll see a large bridge that leads to Goron City. Cross the bridge and enter the city to begin the next part of your quest.

Finding Yunobo

To initiate the quest to free Yunobo, you must first locate him. He can be found in Goron City, a volcanic settlement nestled within Death Mountain. As you enter the city, proceed to the southern side to find a large building adorned with a Goron symbol.

Within this building, you will find Yunobo imprisoned within a cell. To free him, you will need to acquire the key from Bludo, the Goron who guards the cell. Bludo refuses to hand over the key unless you complete a series of tests.

Getting the Divine Beast Vah Rudania

To initiate the quest to free Yunobo, you must first activate the Divine Beast Vah Rudania. Travel to Death Mountain and approach the giant salamander-like creature. Use your Sheikah Slate to scan it, then climb onto its back and insert the Remote Bomb Rune into its eye.

Scanning the Divine Beast

When you scan the Divine Beast, you will receive a brief description of its history and purpose. You will also learn that it is controlled by a malevolent force known as Ganon. Ganon has corrupted the Divine Beast and turned it against the people of Hyrule.

Climbing the Divine Beast

Once you have scanned the Divine Beast, you need to climb onto its back. This can be difficult, as the Divine Beast is covered in spikes and other obstacles. However, there are several handholds and ledges that you can use to climb up.

Inserting the Remote Bomb Rune

Once you have climbed onto the Divine Beast’s back, you need to insert the Remote Bomb Rune into its eye. The Remote Bomb Rune is a Sheikah Slate rune that allows you to detonate bombs remotely. To insert the Remote Bomb Rune, simply equip it and then hold it up to the Divine Beast’s eye.

Ascend to the top of Death Mountain and approach Vah Rudania.
Link will automatically enter Divine Beast mode.

Navigating Vah Rudania

Navigate through the interior of Vah Rudania, solving puzzles and defeating enemies.
Use Magnesis to move metal objects and open doors.
Use Cryonis to create ice platforms and reach higher areas.

Restoring Vah Rudania’s Functions

Locate the four terminals within Vah Rudania.
Each terminal requires the completion of a unique puzzle:
- Terminal 1: Solve a series of puzzles involving cannons and moving platforms.
- Terminal 2: Redirect energy by activating switches and rotating gears.
- Terminal 3: Use the cannon to shoot targets and open a pathway.
- Terminal 4: Use Magnesis to move a large metal sphere through a maze.
Once all four terminals are activated, Vah Rudania’s functions will be restored.
Confront Fireblight Ganon within the beast’s core and defeat it.
Claim the Champion’s Ability, Urbosa’s Fury, and free Yunobo from the beast’s control.

Finding Sidon and Free Yunobo

After investigating the pillars and the tower located in the southernmost part of the Zora River, you’ll need to find Sidon and confirm that he is safe. Follow his path and go through the tunnel in the Lanayru Great Spring that is submerged in water. You’ll find Sidon in Vah Ruta.

Freeing Yunobo

After gaining access to Vah Ruta’s moving platform, you’ll need to go to the lower level of the Vah Ruta. Yunobo is trapped behind a door that is blocked by three metal crates. Each crate has a different symbol, and the order in which you must hit them is shown on a painting on the wall. Hitting the crates in the correct order will cause them to slide away and reveal Yunobo.

Tips for Completing the Quest

Speaking to Yunobo

After freeing Yunobo, talk to him to activate the next phase of the quest.

Ice Arrows

In order to proceed, you’ll need at least ten ice arrows. If you don’t have enough, you can craft them using Ice Keese Eyeball and Wood.

Jumping onto Vah Ruta

To get to Vah Ruta, you’ll need to jump onto its back. Use the updrafts from the nearby waterfall to reach the top.

Metal Crates

The order in which you must hit the metal crates is: bird, elephant, fish.

Waterblight Ganon

Once inside Vah Ruta, you’ll need to defeat Waterblight Ganon to free the Divine Beast.

Cryonis

Throughout the dungeon, you’ll need to use Cryonis to create ice blocks to progress.

Terminal

Once you’ve defeated Waterblight Ganon, use the terminal to unlock Vah Ruta’s abilities.

Returning to Zora’s Domain

After freeing Vah Ruta, return to Zora’s Domain to complete the quest.
